Here are some radio control model aircraft manoeuvres to practice that are typical tasks set in a Fun Flying event.
(1) Timed Flight
Time starts on lift off. Without outside help or the aid of a timer on the transmitter, take off and fly around. After a given period of time, 2 minutes for example, come in to land. The pilot is to estimate the time. The closest time to touchdown, without going over the target time, is the winner of that round.
(2) Dixie Death
Takeoff, do 2 each rolls, loops and spins in any order. Then do a touch and go, do another 2 rolls, loops and spins in any order and then land. Time starts at lift off and stops at landing. The shortest time to complete the task wins that round.
(3) Climb and Spin
Pilot gets 15 seconds to climb to height, then cuts power and completes as many spins as dared possible. Time starts at lift off. Judges to inform pilot when 15 seconds is up.
(4) Timed Loops
Pilot to take off and fly a short circuit to position plane into wind in front of the judges. When time starts do as many loops as you can in 30 seconds. The most loops wins. A spot landing within the painted box gains an extra bonus point.
(5) Two Minute Touch and Go
Time starts at lift off and the pilot performs as many touch and goes as possible in the given time. Pilots who “Touch and Go” within the painted box receive a bonus point. Left hand or Right hand circuit only, depending upon wind direction. A landing roll is not required. It is literally a “Touch and Go”.
(6) One Minute Cuban Eights
Pilot to take off and fly a short circuit to position plane into wind in front of judges. When time starts do as many Cuban Eights as you can within 1 minute.
(7) Timed Inverted Flight
After the wheels leave the ground, the pilot starts the clock by flipping the model inverted and flies for a given time, 2 minutes for example. If he reaches the cut off time maximum points are awarded. Less time inverted = less points. A spot landing within the painted box gains an extra bonus point.
(8) Climb and Glide
The pilot has 20 seconds to climb as high as they can. Then cutting the engine (back to idle for glow engines) glide for as long as they can before landing. Time will stop when power is re-applied or wheels touch the ground. Longest glide wins.
