Actio(n) Scale Rally Competition Details and Rules

Wednesday, 10th February 2016

The Actio(n) Scale Rally Aero-modelling Competition Three In One (n) will be run over three segments. Rally entrants can elect to compete or participate in any segment. He or she may elect to have a model judged in the concourse and then just fly in the non judged segment. Or they can skip the concourse and compete in the judged flying. Or just simply fly for fun.

(1) Scale Concourse Event on Saturday and Sunday

This event is open to designer builder, kit build, modified ARF and Team Scale. The minimum for ARF is modified paint. For example, the model could be weathering, have panel lines or improved functions such as a sliding canopy. Three view drawings are required if claiming outline changes. Otherwise a colour photo or rendering of the modeled aircraft will suffice. Scratch/Kit/Designer require full F4c documentation.

A maximum of 50 points will be awarded. Colour 10, Markings 10, Outline 10, Scale Features 10, Maximum of 5 entrant to quantify, and Concourse x 10.

Concourse is subjective. It is the individual judges view of the presented aircraft. It is the WOW factor and will include craftsmanship and an overall assessment of these factors.

A bonus or ‘K’ factor of 15% will be applied to ‘Scratch built’ and 10% to aircraft built from a kit.

(2) Flying for Realism Event on Saturday and Sunday

The contestant will be required to fly 5 maneuvers including the take off and landing. The additional 3 to be the pilots choice to present the best display of the aircraft. (Open only to entrants electing to be judged).

The flight will be judged by a panel of 2 judges scoring each maneuver out of 10 with no K factor. However a great emphasis will be put on realism - each realism element (3) of this will be scored out of 10 with a K factor of 2.

Realism elements are:

  • Sound.
  • Speed.
  • Smoothness of flight and positioning.

A maximum score would be Flying = 50 and Realism = 60 for a Total of 110. Realism will be judged over the total flight and include the movement between maneuvers.

Entrants will be required to fly the same set of maneuvers each day, however they maybe changed on the ensuing day.

Pilots will be required to compile 2 judging sheets for each flight.

An entrant can fly only once per judging session. A maximum of three per day.

Flight scores will be awarded over the 3 nominated hours each day. The highest scoring pilot each hour will be given the opportunity to Fly Off with the other hourly winners. The best flight score of the meet, the “Barry James Flight Realism Award”, will be awarded in a Fly Off of the daily winners.

(3) Free Flying available on Monday

The principle of one pilot/aircraft one award will be applied, excluding the Pilots Choice. The hierarchy of awards will be:
